Butch was born on December 31, 1947, in Union County, NC, a son of the late Homer Houston Cox, Sr. and Mollie Louise Davidson Cox. He was in the United States Navy. Read More	Butch Cox Jr. December 31, 1947 ~ July 7, 2021 Mr. Homer Houston "Butch" Cox Jr., age 73, of Union County, NC, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Atrium Health Cabarrus. Butch was born on December 31, 1947, in Union County, NC, a son of the late Homer Houston Cox, Sr. and Mollie Louise Davidson Cox. He was in the United States Navy. At the age of 21, he served two tours in Vietnam from 1968-1970. He was proud to serve our country and was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon. In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his son, Brian Gene Cox; his sister, Barbara C. Baucom; and his brother, Elwin Melton. Those left to carry on Butch's memory include his wife of 44 years, Mrs. Minnie Ellen Cox; his daughter, Tammy Cox Helms; his granddaughter Britt'ny Helms; his granddaughter, Erika Helms; his brother, Richard G. Cox (Sue); his sister, Kathern "Kathy" Aldridge (Donnie); his sister, Ora Lee Melton; his brother, Herbert Melton; his sister, Nelda McDonald (Paul); his sister, Tommie Stegall (Walter); and his brother Jackie Melton (Nancy). Butch is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Services to honor Butch's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at Prospect United Methodist Church, 6020 Prospect Road, Monroe, NC, 28112, officiated by Rev. Phil McClain. Interment with full military honors will immediately follow at Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 12, 2021, in the H. Vann Davis III Memorial Chapel of Davis Funeral Service, 1003 E. Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112 between 5:00-7:00 PM. Davis Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Mr. Cox.
