Description	:	Homer "Jack" Rhoades of Sigourney, passed away at the Keokuk County hospital in Sigourney, Friday morning, where he had been a patient for the past 12 days. Mr. Rhoades was ill with a heart ailment for a number of years and was an invalid for the past year and a half. Service was held Monday afternoon in the Reynolds Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Read More	Homer "Jack" Rhoades of Sigourney, passed away at the Keokuk County hospital in Sigourney, Friday morning, where he had been a patient for the past 12 days. Mr. Rhoades was ill with a heart ailment for a number of years and was an invalid for the past year and a half. Service was held Monday afternoon in the Reynolds Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert Mattson, pastor of the Christian church here, and burial was in springfield cemetery, north of Delta. Mr. Rhoades was born July 14, 1880 on a farm north of Delta, the son of Benjamin F. and Sarah Jane McCulllough Rhoades. When a young child the family moved to Delta, where he attended school. At an early age he became a member of the Delta Christian church, which membership he held at the time of his death. Mr. Rhoades was a meat cutter by trade and during his life worked and owned meat markets in various towns in Iowa and Missouri. On November 26, 1903 he was married to Myrtle B. Brush of Rippey. They began housekeeping in Grand Junction, where Mr. Rhoades was then in business. After he retired in 1950 he and his wife come to Sigourney to live. His entire life, with the exception of three years in Missouri, was spent in Iowa. The couple had the privilege of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on November 26 1953. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Damian, who died at Humansville, Missouri on November 26, 1949 and a daughter Grace (Mrs. Robert Riker) of Cedar Falls, who died December 22 1956. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Lauver, of Cedar Falls and Mrs. Francis De Mar of Solon; two sons, Jess of Minneapolis; Minnesota; and Victor of Cedar Falls. 19 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer Rhoades of Pueblo, Colorado; Ray of Los Angeles, California; and Leo of Albert Lea, Minnesota; a sister Mrs. Bert Patrick of Newhall, California; and a daughter in law Mrs. June Rhoades of Sigourney; and a son in law, Robert Riker. -+- Source: Transcribed from clipping by Patricia Storgaard, from the research of Mary E.
