Rood was held at the Evangelical church last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. R K. Pierce officiating. The deceased was a member of the G.A.R. so the local Post and W.R.C. turned out in a body. The following sketch of Mr. Rood's life was handed us after going to press last week: Homer M. Rood was born in Binghampton county, Vermont, January 28, 1830. He moved to Illinois at the age of 21 years and married Eunice E. Scovel in 1861. He lived there until 1880 then moved with his wife to Adams county, Iowa. Lived there until 1883, then moved to Surprise, Nebraska. His wife died June 14, 1892. He was again married to Louise VanCleve on June 14, 1893. Died at his home in Fullerton, Nebr., April 20, 1904, aged 74 years 2 months 23 days. Homer M. Rood enlisted July 2, 1862 in Co. F 74th Ill. Infantry. Discharged on account of disability April 3, 1863. Mustered into Grand Army Feb. 4, 1879. He was a member of Live Eagle Post at Fullerton at the time of his death. ~~~~ Another clipping indicated he died after an illness of several weeks with pneumonia.
