Mr. Thompson was removed to the Gass Mortuary Chapel. Short funeral services will be held at the Gass Mortuary Chapel, Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Mr. Thompson will be taken to Creston, Nebr. Thompson, resident of Peoria for the past few years & highly respected, were held at the Gauss Chapel this afternoon at 4 o'clock. Dr. W. E. Shaw will officiate & further services & interment will be held at Creston, Nebr. Mr. Thompson, the father of Mrs. (Mary Jane), wife of C. A. DILLE principal of Longfellow school had been a member of the Masonic Order for 65 years, taking his fraternal degrees in Scotland, his birthplace. He was 86 years old at the time of his death. He leaves 7 children. And to this union 8 children were born, Mrs. James DIVELBISS of California who preceded him in death about 5 years ago, Mrs. Rufus ABBOTT of Hanford, Calif., William THOMPSON and James THOMPSON of Hanford, Calif., Mrs. C. A. DILLE of Peoria, Ill., Mrs. Guy D. CLARK of Creston, Nebr., Mrs. Stephen SNYDER of Henry, Ill., & Robert THOMPSON of Madison, S.D. The beloved wife and mother passed on 29 October 1914 in Creston, Nebr. Mr. Thompson was one of the pioneers of Central Illinois coming to near Henry, Ill. just before the close of the Civil War where he continued to reside until 1904 when he moved to Creston, Nebr. where he made his home until after the death of his wife which broke his heart & his home. He spent his declining years among his children where he was always a cheerful, welcome addition to the family circle. A kind, loving husband, father & friend has gone to join his beloved wife & daughter leaving behind 7 children, 13 grandchildren, & 19 great grandchildren, next to his family & his friendships, Mr. Thompson's great interest centered around his Masonic membership, he having been a member of that order for 65 years, having filled every office in the blue lodge at Whitefield, Ill. Brought up as a Scottish Presbyterian his church activities in this country were centered in Illinois in the little Methodist Church at Whitefield Center, Illinois. But his whole soul belief in God & his Omniscience permitted him to worship freely in the church, of whatsoever denomination of his immediate neighborhood. And at evening there was a light and so on a beautiful Sunday evening at the time of the evening service, his Spirit, quickly & painlessly joined in the Sunday service before the altar of Him in whom we live & move & have our being. source: Peoria Star Remains Brought Here for Final Resting Place Services Held Thursday at Presbyterian Church, Rev. Graham, officiating Homer Rodden Thompson was born in Dumfrees, Scotland, 6 January 1841, & passed away in Peoria, Illinois, on Sunday evening, 13 February 1927, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. A. Dille. Mr. Thompson had reached the age of 86 years, 1 month & 6 days. The remains were brought to Creston & funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church on Thursday afternoon by Rev. E. W. Graham, with burial in the Creston cemetery. Mr. Thompson grew to young manhood in "the land of the purple heather" & at the age of 21 years a was united in marriage to the Scotch lassie of his choice, Janet Proven. Eight children, 7 of whom are living, were sent to make the happiness of this home complete. One daughter, Mrs. James (Elizabeth "Lyde") Divelbiss, passed away in her home in California 5 years ago. The wife & mother died in Creston on 29 October 1914. The surviving children are Mrs. Rufus (Isabella "Belle") Abbott, William & James Thompson, of Hanford, Calif.; Mrs. G. D. (Janette "Nettie")Clark of Albion, Nebr.; Mrs. C. A. (Mary Jane) Dille of Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. Stephen (Anna) Snyder of Henry, Ill.; & Robert Thompson of Madison, S. D.
