Description	:	Mrs. Homer R. Thompson Janet PROVEN THOMPSON was born at Blackfaulds, Scotland, 8 July 1845; was married to Homer R. THOMPSON 3 November 1862. They came from Scotland to America in the face of 1865, settling in Marshall county, Illinois, where they lived 41 years. She with her husband moved to Nebraska, 1 March 1903, settling on a farm with their sons, which has been her home. She was stricken with paralysis in March 1913, leaving her an invalid almost 20 months. She sustained another stroke Monday morning, 26 October, from which she never rallied, passing away 29 October 1914.... Read More	Mrs. Homer R. Besides the aged husband, she leaves to mourn her departure 3 sons, 5 daughters, 11 grandchildren & 1 great grandson. The children are William, James, Robert THOMPSON & Mrs. G. CLARK (Janette) all living in the vicinity of Creston, Neb.; Mrs. R. ABBOTT (Belle) of Hanford, Calif.; Mrs. C. A. DILLE (Mary Jane) of Peoria; Mrs. S. A. SNYDER (Anna Viola) of Henry, Ill.; & all were present at the burial except for Mrs. Abbott, who was unable to attend. Mrs. Thompson was a home - loving woman, always sacrificing self for her family. She was ever ready & willing to help a neighbor in time of sickness & trouble, never refusing to go where needed. She united with the M. E. Church while living in Whitefield. Besides her own family she raised 2 motherless grandchildren who gave her the loving care of 2 daughters during her illness. Her funeral was held at the U. P. Church in Creston, Neb., conducted by the U. P. & M. E. ministers. The songs were sweetly rendered by the M. E. quartet. She was laid away in the beautiful cemetery of that place. The flowers were many & beautiful. The casket bearers were old friends of Illinois days, Charles Jacobs, Willis Decker, Newton Maxwell, Sherman Dixon, Charles Campbell & John Johnson. In the death of Mrs. Homer R. Thompson, as chronicled in an obituary in our last issue, we are reminded that Mr. & Mrs. Thompson were among the early settlers & prominent citizens of Whitefield township for a long series of years. Mr. Thompson located in the southwest part of the township in 1865, opening a blacksmith shop, which he conducted for upwards of 40 years, being an exceptionally expert mechanic & conducting a flourishing business for a large territory among the farmers. His 2 brothers, John & Thomas, opened a store of general merchandise on the opposite corner from the blacksmith shop, & the 4 corners were known as Thompson's Corners, until a few years ago the name "Lundy" was substituted. The name Lundy indicated a post office, with Thomas Thompson as post master, it serving the community for miles around with the United States mail for some years, when routes were laid out & a carrier appointed. The postmaster was abandoned as the territory was served by a carrier. About 1903 there was a scattering of the brothers, Homer moving to Nebraska & John & Thomas selling their store to Peter Hohner, moved to Missouri, where they again went into merchandising. Thomas dying in a couple of years after going to the "show me" state. John afterwards retired from business & we think joined his brother in Nebraska. The blacksmith business was abandoned at "Lundy" after Homer Thompson moved away, & the store burning some years after, the locality was abandoned as a business center & "Lundy" was no more. Mrs. Stephen Snyder was called to Nebraska by the serious illness of her mother, Mrs. Homer Thompson, who we hear passed away the next day after she & her sister, Mrs. C. A. Dille arrived. We all extend sympathy to the beraved ones of the family. We all knew & greatly respected this good mother Thompson. She always seemed so ready to love & protect those around her. We know how sad with her taking away be to the rest & especially her aged companion. We expect to see a write up from some one that can give particulars.
