He was born in Greenwood County on June 1917, the son of Earl L. and Cecil (Lyon) Brown. He was raised in the Climax/Eureka area and attended Hallett Rural School and graduated from Tonovay High School with the class of 1937. He was born in Greenwood County on June 1917, the son of Earl L. and Cecil (Lyon) Brown. He was raised in the Climax/Eureka area and attended Hallett Rural School and graduated from Tonovay High School with the class of 1937. After his schooling he farmed in the Eureka/Climax area and also worked at the Alfalfa Mill. On Nov. 30, 1939 he was united in marriage to Enola Gibson in Eureka. In 1948 they moved to Virgil where he worked in the oil fields but also continued to farm. In 1963 they moved back to rural Eureka. Homer farmed, worked in the oil field and did carpentry work until his death. He was a member of the Christian and Congregational Church of Eureka. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He is survived by wife Enola of the home; sons Russell of Jacksonville, FL; and Gary of Eureka; daughter Ruth Ann Peoples of Rose Hill; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one brother Willis Brown of Eureka. Funeral services were held on Sat. May 24 at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Greenwood County Cemetery.
