Description	:	DENNIS — Hope (Crowell) Hallett, of Dennis, died on April 4, 2008, at the age of 95 years. She was the daughter of Frances (Higgins) and William E. Crowell, and mother of Frances Hope Webb and Faith Ann Hallett, both of Dennis, and Norma Charity Burton of Boca Raton, Fla. Read More	DENNIS — Hope (Crowell) Hallett, of Dennis, died on April 4, 2008, at the age of 95 years. She was the daughter of Frances (Higgins) and William E. Crowell, and mother of Frances Hope Webb and Faith Ann Hallett, both of Dennis, and Norma Charity Burton of Boca Raton, Fla. Hope was born in Dennis on a working farm and was a lifelong resident of that town. She graduated from Dennis High School in 1929 and Bouve' Boston School of Physical Education, now part of Northeastern University. She was also a 1934 graduate of Hyannis State Teachers College. She taught at the Ezra H. Baker School in South Dennis until she was forced to quit teaching, a requirement in those days, when she married Norman A. Hallett and began her career in mothering. In the small village of Dennis, she did all that was required; Brownie Scouts, working on the Christmas Eve Santa Claus visit at Carleton Hall, and baking chicken pies for church dinners. She was a member of the Dennis Union Church and of their Women's Fellowship. She served as a deaconess and was chairman of the Memorial Committee for the church. She was a member of the Dennis Historical Society and served 12 years on the Josiah Dennis Manse Committee. An avid reader and swimmer, she also did volunteer work at the Museum of Natural History in Brewster. Hope returned to teaching and taught in Ezra H. Baker School and Nathaniel H. Wixon School for a number of years, retiring in 1971. In addition to her daughters, survivors include six grandchildren, Sara Webb Quest, Stephanie (Rosenlund) Starr, Jeremy J. Burton, Joshua A. Burton, Michael A. Ferro and Natalie A. Ferro, three great-grandchildren, two nephews, and many grandnieces and grandnephews, and their children. A funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. Visiting hours will precede the funeral from 1:30 to 3:30. Burial will be private.
