Description	:	Information from the Pioneer Days - Hesper Township 1851-1941 Horace Williams was born in Batavia, New York in 1822. In 1837 he and his two brothers went to Michigan where they settled in Ingham County. Together they bought 1700 acres of land and built a saw mill and flouring mill. He later entered the mercantile business, but soon afterwards opened a law office and was admitted to practice there until 1857. Read More	Information from the Pioneer Days - Hesper Township 1851-1941 Horace Williams was born in Batavia, New York in 1822. In 1837 he and his two brothers went to Michigan where they settled in Ingham County. Together they bought 1700 acres of land and built a saw mill and flouring mill. He later entered the mercantile business, but soon afterwards opened a law office and was admitted to practice there until 1857. He traveled through Dakots, Nebraska, and Iowa and located in Hesper township in 1858. In 1860 he married Caroline Tabor. In the year 1881 she died, leaving six children, three sons and three daughters. At the time of her death she was laid to rest on their farm. Later her remains were moved to the family lot in Hesper Cemetery. Mr. Williams was an excellent gardener and his farm home was one of the finest in Winneshiek county. He was elected four times to represent the district in the state legislature. He was a member of the legal profession of the state of Iowa.
