GREENWOOD Horace Elmer Greenwood was born to Elizabeth Pullman and C. Davis Greenwood on October 7, 1902 in Silver City, Iowa. He moved with his parents of Emerson in 1904 and he has been a resident of this community since that time. When he was about 12 years of age, he gave his life to Christ and was baptized in the First Baptist Church on April 25, 1915. He has been the second oldest member for some time. Throughout all of his live he has lived as a firm believer in Christ and has contributed of his time and means to the ongoing of the Church. He was united in marriage to Gayle L. Cramer on September 5, 1925 at the home of his bride in the Emerson Community. To this union were born two sons and two daughter, Edward of Emerson, Berkeley of Yakina, Washington, Betty Carlson of Wavely, Nebraska, and Janice Seal of Hailey, Idaho. Horace has worked in and owned the Greenwood Lumber Company of Emerson since 1925 until his death. He was always very active, even up to the day that he entered the hospital. He had held various offices in the church, he was Clerk for many years and at the time of his death he was a member of the Board of Deacons, a position which he held for several years. He was an officer and director of the Emerson Cemetery Board for many ears, also a member of Humanity Lodge No. 378 A.F. & A.M. and was Past Master of the Lodge. He referred to himself as a fifty-three year Mason. He was also a member of the Emerson Community Club and the Hawkeye Gem and Mineral Club of S.W. Iowa. He has also been a member of the Mills County Appraisal Board for 35 years. Thos who knew and were in any way associated with him, knew the kind of man he was and anything that I would try to add to that would only mar the memory of a life well lived. Horace went to be with his Heavenly Father from the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital at Red Oak, Iowa on Monday, February 4, 1980 at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 27 days. He leaves to suffer his loss, his wife, Gayle, his children, Edward and wife Ruth; Betty and husband Russell Carlson, Berkeley and wife Darlene; and Janice Seal. There are also two brothers, Charles Greenwood of Santa Cruz, California and Roscoe Greenwood of Longmont, Colorado. He had 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. All of the family except one grandchild had been home for Christmas. Besides all of these, he leaves many other relatives and a vas host of friends. Horace was a true and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and by all means Friend. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Emerson, Thursday, February 7, 1980 at 10:30 a.m., Pastor J. f. Kunce officiant. Music was by Mrs Charles Vestal with Mrs. J. F. Kunce organist. Songs were "I've Done My Work" and "How Great Thou Art." Ushers were Arthur (Bud) Elkins, George Hascall, Jr. and Lynn Hover. Honorary bearers were Alfred Anderson, William Douglas, Ivan Durbin, Kirk Hascall, Darrell Mayberry, Dean McLain, Lane Morse, and Eric Nyren. Casket bearers were Rancy Carlson, Steve Carlson, Berk Greenwood, Charles Hambeck, Charles Maxine, Joe Larson, Allen Meek, and willard Weatherell. Masonic rites were by Humanity Lodge No 378, A.F. & A.M. Interment was in the Emerson Cemetery, ray nor Left and Kent Funeral Home, Burton L. Keat, director in charge of services.
