Pruitt, one of the best known citizens of this community, died suddenly of a heart attack at the home of friends in Nazareth, Penna., Sunday January 3rd. He was 56 Years of age. He had spent the Christmas holidays at his home in this city, and returned to Bethlehem, Pa., where he was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Company, but had not returned to work due to the fact that he suffered several slight heart attacks. On the day of this death, he was on a visit to friends in Nazareth, about 18 miles from Bethlehem, when he had another heart attack, and by the time he was able to get to the door, to return to Bethlehem, he died. He was a native of this community, the son of the late George H. and Mary F. Pruitt, and until two years ago, when he went to Bethlehem to work, took out fishing and gunning parties in his large power boat. For a number of years he was in the employ of the government as an engineer on one of their boats. Like most of the men in the section where he lived, he had a nickname, "Squabble," which as the years passed became a name uttered by his friends with affection and by acquaintances with liking and respect. A man with a host of friends, likable, accommodating, a skilled mechanic, he stood high in the esteem of the whole community, and news of his sudden passing was received with sincere sorrow here. His body was brought to Crisfield and reposed in the Lawson & Hubbard Funeral Parlors until Wednesday, when funeral services were held in Asbury Methodist Church, not far from his home, at 2.00 P.M., with the pastor, Rev. J. T. Rowlenson, officiating. Interment was in the family lot in Asbury cemetery. The funeral services were largely attended, and scores of beautiful floral pieces had been sent by relatives and friends as a last measure of love and affection for a fine husband, father and friend, who had been called to his last reward. Honorary pall bearers were members of Stanley Cochrane Post of the American Legion, of which Mr. Pruitt was a member. Active pall bearers were Thomas Maddrix, Paul Maddrix, William S. Sterling, William Sterling of Leon, Lewis Ward and Oscar Bard. Fe is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elsie Sterling Pruitt, one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Leach, of Bethesda, Md., and one sister, Mrs. Harry Byrd, of Columbus, Ohio.
