Casket bearers, grandsons of the deceased were: Robert, John, David, Tom, Scott and Michael Wahl. Others were Matthew and Joshua Root, also grandsons. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, Victor. Officating at the graveside was Gerald B. Tubaugh, president of the Belle Plaine chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. The son of Henry and Katherine Helmers Wahl, Horace Helmers Wahl was born in Victor Feb. 18, 1908. He attended the Victor schools, Iowa Wesleyan college, Mount Pleasant; and the State University of Iowa, Iowa City. His marriage to Ruth Coats took place June 30, 1920. Nov. 20, 1937 he married Claudine Singmaster at Kahoka, Mo. He was a 50 year member of the Grand Masons lodge of Iowa, a 32nd degree consistory Mason, a member of the El-Kahir Shrine, a member of the Harold E. Smith post 54 of the American Legion, Victor, and was ordained a high priest of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. He served on the Iowa County board of review ten years until resigning effective Jan. 1. Surviving are his wife, Claudine; the children of his first marriage, George Edward Light, Fontana, CA., Horace Henry (Bud) Wahl, Jefferson; the children of second marriage, Peter Wahl, Coronado, CA., Michael Wahl, Broken Bow, NE; and a daughter Priscilla (Mrs. Monte) Root, Belle Plaine; 17 grandchildren, one great-grandson and his sister, Mrs. Dale Courtney, Williamsburg.
