Clothier Drowns in Pond Frederick News-Post - January 24, 1951 Horace Truman Clothier, 59, a native of Poolesville and maintenance foreman for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, was accidentally drowned Monday morning about 11 o'clock near Laurel. Fellow employees said Mr. Clothier went to a settling tank to get a bucket of water with which to extinguish a glazing tar barrel and fell into twelve feet of water. Mr. Clothier couldn't swim, they said, and none of them could swim. He drowned before they could summon assistance. The Branchville and Berwyn Rescue squads were called but they were unable to revive him. A son of the late James and Irea Clothier, of Poolesville, the deceased had been residing at 8712 Coles Road, Silver Spring. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lenie B. Clothier; two sons, Truman and Bedford Clothier, both of Wilmington, Del.; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Baxter, Chestertown, and Miss Lelia Clothier, Poolesville, and two brothers, Archie Clothier, Washington, and David Clothier, Silver Spring. The remains are at the funeral home in Barnesville, where funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 o'clock. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville. William B. Hilton, funeral director.
