Description	:	Horace Wilson Bird, son of Levi and Sara Bird, was born Oct. 29. 186O in Winnebago Co.. Ill.. coming to Iowa with his parents in 1864 they settled in Fayette Co., Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On Christmas day 1883 he was married to Kate Alta Powers. They followed the occupation of farming for 29 years, moving to Stanley, Iowa in the summer of 1912, where they have since made their home. To them were born three children, Mrs. Ethel W. Hardy of Independence, Iowa, Frank W. Bird of Beloit, Wis., and George W. Bird of Springfield, Ohio, who together with his wife, a companion of almost fifty five years, survive him. He was one... They followed the occupation of farming for 29 years, moving to Stanley, Iowa in the summer of 1912, where they have since made their home. To them were born three children, Mrs. Ethel W. Hardy of Independence, Iowa, Frank W. Bird of Beloit, Wis., and George W. Bird of Springfield, Ohio, who together with his wife, a companion of almost fifty five years, survive him. He was one of a family of 10 children, six of whom preceded him in death including his twin brother Hugh. A sister, Mrs. Sylvia Rathbun of Stanley, Iowa, two brothers Clark of Aurora Iowa and Andrew of Oelwein. survive him. He also leaves eight grandchildren and two great grand children. Several years ago he united with the Union Church of Stanley land was a charter member of the local Modern Woodman lodge. During his life he was active in township and county affairs. He was a man of sterling character and was held in high esteem by all. People who knew him were his friends. In his dealings he was conscientious in the performance of every duly. A noble manly man whose memory will be cherished by all. Mr. Bird was in failing health for some time and passed away Dec. 4, 1938 at the age of 78 years, 1 mo. and 5 days. Funeral services were held from the Union church Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Thomas, pastor of the church. Mr and Mrs. Gordon Manley. Mrs. Elmer Morgan and Mr. George Hill sang Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," That Beautiful Land," "In The Garden." They were accompanied on the piano by Miss Mable Campbell. The casket bearers were six nephews of Mr. Bird, Carl and Walter Bird and John Meyer of Aurora, Andrew Bird of Oelwein and Noel Rathbun and George Warneke of Waterloo. Interment was in the Stanley Cemetery.
