Interment was in Graceland Cemetery. The Services were attended by an unusually large number of friends. Howard A. Johnson, the second son of Mr and Mrs Oscar Johnson, was born in Burlington, Kan., on August 16, 1898. His death was due to an accident and occurred on March 2, 1948, when he was 49 years, six months and 15 days of age. His boyhood and youth were spent on the farm in the Harris district where he was born and where he attended school. He attended church and Sunday school at Bethel church and at District 49 and while still a young man joined the United Brethen church; later he transferred his membership to the Burlington Methodist church, He was a member and officer in the Mt. Pleasant Grange as long as it continued active and in 1922 he transferred his membership to the Cola Hill Grange. He remained active in the Cola Hill Grange until the time of his death, having been recently chosen patron of the Juvenile Grange, was a member of the entertainment committee, and was looking forward to receiving his 25 yrs. pin in the near future. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau. On November 20, 1921 he was married to Miss Ruth Howard and to this union five children were born: A son, Howard A Johnson, Jr., and four daughters, Mrs Lee Malloy of Wichita; Elizabeth Johnson a senior in Burlington high school; and Rosetta May Johnson and Darlene Johnson of the home. His mother and a sister preceded him in death. He is survived by his father and stepmother of Burlington, by his wife and five children, a son-in-law, one grandson; by his five brothers, Carl R. Johnson of Kansas City, Mo; Francis Johnson of Montgomery, West VA; Clarence Johnson of Burlington; John A. Johnson of Waverly; Ralph Johnson of Huntington Park, Calif;--------- Howard grew up in the Viva neighborhood and lived on the home place for many years before buying the present farm near Gridley.
