Burres in charge. Frank E. Powers, accompanied by Mrs T. T. Kelley sang "In The Garden" and "Going Home". The casket bearers were: Carl A. Johnson, Francis E. Johnson, John A. Johnson, Clarence L. Interment was in the Otter Creek (Baker) cemetery at Burlington. Karl Oscar Johnson, the son of John and Christina Johnson, was born on June 4, 1868, in Sindra Vi, Sweden, and departed this life at his home southwest of Burlington, Kan., on September 14, 1949 at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 20 days. His father died when Oscar was six years old, and in 1887, when he was nineteen years old, he came to the United States thru money sent to him by his sister. Oscar and his sister in turn sent money for the passage of their mother and youngest brother Gus which left their oldest brother Elof and family in Sweden. In 1903 Oscar and Gus sent for their nephews John Patrick Johnson, now residing in Elmore, Ohio, and Karl Johnson, now of Catalina, Calif. On January 29, 1896 he was married to Rosetta Stout who died on February 22, 1924. To this union were born seven children, six boys and one girl: Carl A. Johnson of Kansas City, Mo.; Howard A. Johnson, who was killed in a farm accident on March 2, 1948 at his home near Gridley, Kan., leaving his wife Ruth and their five children; Alma Marie, who died on February 19, 1920; Francis E. Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio; John A. Johnson of Waverly, Kan.; Clarence L. Johnson of Burlington, Kan.; Ralph O. Johnson of Huntington Park, Calif. On February 27, 1927 he was married to Julia Jones of Eureka, Kan. Early in life he united with the Swedish Lutheran church, and this was his faith thruout his life. There being no Lutheran church in his community, when his family was young he joined the United Brethren church and was active in the Palmer Chapel and Mount Pleasant churches so long as they had a minister. He was an active member of the Mount Pleasant Grange, and for a number of years he served on the school board of District No. 49. Though his formal education was limited he read and spoke three languages; Swedish, German and English. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, five sons, six daughters-in-law, his brother Gus Johnson of Madison, Kan., a nephew and a niece in Sweden, three nephews and a niece in this country, fifteen grandchildren one great grandson, also three step-sons; Leslie O. Jones, James Harold Jones and Robert L. Jones; one step-daughter Beryl Black; two step-granddaughters, all living in Portland, Ore., and a host of neighbors and friends. He was of thrifty pioneering stock, a devoted husband, a stern but loving father and a good neighbor. Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr and Mrs. Gus Johnson, Madison; Mr and Mrs Carl A. Johnson, Kansas City, Mo.; Francis E. Johnson, Cleveland, Ohio; Mr and Mrs Ralph O. Johnson and daughter Donna, Huntington Park, California; Leslie O. Jones, Portland, Ore.; Mrs T. B. White, Mr and Mrs Paul White and Mr and Mrs Preston White of Cotton wood Falls; Mr and Mrs Floyd White, of Council Grove; Mr and Mrs Lawernz of Latimer; Mrs Loyd Bishop of Emporia; Mr and Mrs Chas. Williams, Kansas City, Kans.; Mr and Mrs. Louis Wintzler, of Emporia
