Description	:	Howard B. Plagens, age 89, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Janet Miller will officiate. Music will be provided by Marcia Jelsma as organist with Judy Everson as soloist. Visitation will be on Friday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Plagens, age 89, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown. Hope Cemetery in Watertown, SD, at a later date. Howard was born on November 15, 1926, in Garden City, SD, to Oscar E. and Mae E. (Mitchell) Plagens. Howard’s mother died when he was 10 years old. Oscar married Mina Fick in 1955 and she remained a special person in Howard’s adult life. He attended school in Garden City and graduated in 1944. Howard helped on the farm until joining the U.S. Army in 1945. While in the service he was with the Army of Occupation Metal in Tokyo, Japan. Howard was honorably discharged in 1947 and returned to the farm. On September 27, 1947, Howard married Janice Pederson in Luverne, MN. The couple lived on a farm southwest of Garden City until moving to Watertown in 1953. Howard then worked at Codington-Clark Electric until his retirement in January of 1988. After retiring, Howard and Janice spent their winters in Arizona. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #17 and a life member of Watertown Elks #838. Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating and car races. He also liked carpentry, woodworking, and anything that dealt with his grandson, David. He liked all dogs, especially his dog, Tami. Howard is survived by his wife, Janice, of Watertown; one daughter, Carol (Paul) Hinderaker, of Watertown; one grandson, David (Ashley) Hinderaker, of Omaha, NE; one brother-in-law, Lowell Pederson; and several nieces and nephews.
