Howard Chester Brown was born Oct. 17, 1918, to Chleo Chester and Winnifred Erma (Boyer) Brown in Ida County. Howard served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1941-45, and was stationed in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and achieved the rank of technical sergeant. Howard and Dorothy M. Reiff were married April 27, 1945, in Ida Grove. He attended AIB College in Des Moines for two years and worked as an accountant for Doane Agricultural Service and Nim's Sportsman of Ames. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames. He is survived by two daughters, Judith Katharine (Duane) Erdmann, of Kennett Square, Pa., and Katharine Phyllis Brown, of Ames; and one brother, Myrwyn G. (Jane) Brown, of Rochester, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; four brothers; and three sisters.
