Brockman, was born on March 27, 1926 to Henry M. and Margaret (Dolnicek) Brockman in rural Lawrence, Nebraska. He departed this life Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the Madonna Rehabilitation Center Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska at age 87. He attended St. Stephen's Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1943. On September 23, 1947 he was married to Lillian Pavelka at St. Martin's Catholic Church Loucky near Deweese, Nebraska. They spent their married life on the parental farm in the Lawrence area and attended St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Later they attended Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Lawrence after they retired and moved into Lawrence. Mr. Brockman was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus St. Stephen's Council 1906 having served as past Grand Knight, was a Charter Member of The Sons of American Legion Post #45, Lawrence, Nebraska. In the summer of 2013, they moved to the Legacy Estates in Lincoln. Howard enjoyed farming, golfing, playing cards, all sports and especially Nebraska Football and New York Yankees Baseball. His greatest pride and joy was his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was fully involved in his community over his life time, donating time and energy to many community and church activities. He is survived by his wife Lillian of Lincoln; Daughters Donna (Gary) Helman, Diane (Dan) Kucera, DeEtta (Terry) Mayrose, all of Lincoln; Son Duane (Jeanette) Brockman, Lawrence; Brother Ken (Phyllis) Brockman, Lincoln; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Yvonne Hubl and and her husband Rudy. Funeral services were held for Howard on Saturday, January 4, 2014. The Mass of Christian burial was at the Sacred Heart church (sic) in Lawrence with Father Thomas Bush as celebrant. Assisting at the altar were: Lector Ken Pavelka; Acolyte Allen Ostdiek; Song Leader Megan Brockman; Organist Linda Ostdiek; Gift Bearers Abby Helman and Erin Mayrose; Altar boys Matthew and Stephen Kimminau. Following the Mass, a poem was read by Abby Helman and a short eulogy was given by Derrick Wilhelm. Pallbearers included Mitch Helman, Sam Brockman, Tyler Brockman, Brad Kucera, Clint Kucera, Derrick Wilhelm. Interment was in the Sacred Heart parish cemetery east of Lawrence. A rosary and wake service was held Friday evening at Sacred Heart church (sic). The St. Stephen Council 1906, Knights of Columbus presented the family with a crucifix in memory of Howard's 69 years and 9 months of membership in the charitable organization. Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska was in charge of arrangements.
