(Emmons) Hughes, and was educated in the public schools of his native town. Howard Hill Hughes Howard Hill Hughes, died at the home of his parents, 24 Pillsbury street, Concord, May 14, 1909. He was born in Ashland, July 28, 1880, the oldest child of James H. and Linda B. (Emmons) Hughes, and was educated in the public schools of his native town. Learning telegraphy he entered the employ of B.&M. in 1899, and after being employed at various stations, was appointed ticket agent and operator at Littleton which responsible position he held for nearly eight years and until failing health compelled him to relinquish it. In the discharge of his duties, he was always careful, reliable and conscientious and enjoyed in a high degree the respect and esteem of his fellow employees as well as the railroad officials. Early in his life manifested much interest in music and he became proficient as a pianist and organist. For several years he was organist at St. Mark's church, Ashland, and also filled the same position at Littleton. His exemplary and quiet but cheerful disposition endeared him greatly to all with whom he came in contact, and in all the various walks of life he did his part well and truly, without fear and without reproach. He was a member of Mount Prospect Lodge A.&F. and A.&M., at Ashland, and the order of the Eastern Star at Littleton, also of the Brotherhood of O.R.T. The funeral was held at Ashland, May 17 at St. Mark's church, of which he was a member, and was very largely attended, the church being filled with relatives and friends. Mt. Prospect Masonic Lodge attended in a body and the O.E.S. and O.R.T. were also represented. The Rev. Howard F. Hill of Concord, by whom he was baptized as an infant, and for whom he was named, officiated the service. The floral offerings were many in number and extremely beautiful. Singing was by the Oberon quartet of Laconia. The bearers were F.P. Learned, H.M. Harvey, from the O.R. T., and H.R. Spaulding, A.J. Hunt, A.S. Fifield, and A.F. Jackson from the Masonic fraternity. Interment was in Green Grove Cemetery, Ashland. He is survived by his father and mother, and two brothers, James, Jr. of Whittinsville, Mass. and Arthur R., of Concord. >The Plymouth Record, May 22, 1909, p1.
