Description	:	Funeral services for Howard Whitney of Humboldt were held this morning at the United Methodist Church in Humboldt.Burial was in the Humboldt Cemetery. Wherry Bros. Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Whitney passed away Monday, Sept 1 1986 at the Pawnee County Hospital after suffering a heart attack. He was 79 years old. Howard Rudyard Whitney was born south of Falls City on Jan. 26 1907, a son of Bessie Abbott Whitney and Wade Hampton Whitney. He received his grade school education in rural Kansas schools in the Emporia area. At the age of 11, the family moved to the Salem vicinity, where he completed his education graduating from Verdon high school with the Class of 1924. Upon his graduation, he moved with his parents northwest of Humboldt, where he farmed with his father until his marriage to Mabel Leona Glathar on June 7, 1933. They established their home in Pawnee County and he farmed with his father until Wade retired in 1945. The Whitney's moved to the home place and had resided there since. Mr.Whitney served on rural school boards in Pawnee County, District 52 and Richardson County District 11.He joined the Humboldt United Methodist Church on Jan 28, 1934 and was active member until his death. Survivors include his wife, Mabel; two sons, Gary Whitney, Humboldt, and David Whitney Manhattan Kan; one daughter Janet Larsen, Fremont; six grandchildren and two sisters Mrs Una Darby and Mrs Arlene Vonderhaar, Mississippi.
