Description	:	Feb. 9, 1914 - Nov. 17, 2003 Howard William Daniels, 89, of Poulsbo died Monday at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Tenino to John and Ruth (Churchill) Daniels. The second-oldest of nine children, he attended school in Tenino until age 14 when he dropped out of school to work and help support his family. Read More	Feb. 9, 1914 - Nov. 17, 2003 Howard William Daniels, 89, of Poulsbo died Monday at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Tenino to John and Ruth (Churchill) Daniels. The second-oldest of nine children, he attended school in Tenino until age 14 when he dropped out of school to work and help support his family. At age 16, Mr. Daniels moved to Kennicott, Alaska, to work as a bucket tender in the Kennicott Copper Mines. In 1936, he relocated to Poulsbo where he worked with his aunt, Edith Bauer Schaffer, owner of Bauer's Bakery (now Sluys Poulsbo Bakery). While working at Bauer's Bakery, he met Marian Ryen, who worked in sales. They married Aug. 20, 1938, in Anacortes. Mr. Daniels eventually became head baker at Bauer's, then went on to work at the Naval Torpedo Station in Keyport as an ordnance technician. After 33 years of service, he retired from Keyport, having received many awards for his work there. Mr. Daniels loved fishing, gardening and camping. In 1976, just six months after his retirement, he was injured in a commercial fishing accident. He had volunteered with the Poulsbo Fire Department for 25 years and was a member of the Sons of Norway and First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. For many years, he served as the "official" lefse roller for First Lutheran's lutefisk supper. Mr. Daniels was preceded in death by his wife in 1998 and by his Aunt Edith and several brothers and sisters. Full obituary, Kitsap Sun, Nov. 20, 2003.
