Mike was born Nov. 19, 1911, in Twin Bridges, to Charles D. Osborne and Mary K. (Wigmore) Osborne. Mike was the third oldest child of the Osborne family and the last survivor. He attended the Wisconsin Creek School, where he finished eighth grade. He worked at home, and later went to Medicine Lake and Redstone, where he worked for his grandparents James C. Wigmore and Lilly (Richmod) Wigmore, and various ranchers in the area. When the Fort Peck Dam was being built, he trucked fruit from Yakima, Wash., across northern Montana. When he returned to Madison County, Mike worked in cattle roundups on the Upper Ruby for Lewis and Davis, the Reid Brothers and George Jenkens. On Sept. 5, 1940, he married Mary Carnes in Dillon. They raised a family of four children, and moved to Spokane, Wash., where he belonged to the Washington, Idaho and Montana carpenters union. Mike built many houses in Spokane, Missoula, Whitehall, Dillon and Twin Bridges. He also helped build the Twin Bridges Elementary School, the Catholic church and some of the college buildings in Dillon. He helped build many of the overpasses between Whitehall and Butte, as well as the Serbian Church in Butte. In Missoula, he worked for Hightower Construction on many of the Buttrey Supermarkets and the pulp mill in Frenchtown. At the age of 90, he lived alone in his own house and kept active with his children, grandchildren and friends. He still managed to drive his truck up and down the streets of Twin Bridges prior to his illness. According to the census of Twin Bridges, Mike was the oldest citizen of the town. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Irene, Imogene, Joyce, Jincey; brother, Hoyt; and wife, Mary. Survivors include his daughters, Mary Wickham and husband Ray, of New Hope, Minn., Shirley Braach and husband Jerry, of Twin Bridges, and Fay Sloan and husband Larry, of Frenchtown; son, Hoyt Osbourne and wife Lois, of Nairobi, Kenya, Africa; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. We will greatly miss him, but we know that he is spending eternity with Jesus Christ his savior, and we have the comfort of knowing that we will see him again. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Valley, Twin Bridges, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006. Send Memorials to the Ruby Valley Hospital at Sheridan.
