"JR" Gibson Hubert Leonard Gibson, Jr. of Eureka, died on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, in Wichita, at the age of 64. He was born on January 16, 1948, in Eureka, the son of Hubert Leonard and Opal Myrtle (Wright) Gibson. He was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School. He grew up working on the farm, southeast of Eureka. On September 9, 1972, JR was united in marriage to Shelia Ann McDonald in Eureka. They made their home in Shelton, Nebraska and two children were born to this union, Jeremy and Christina. Shelia preceded him in death on June 17, 1986. JR later returned to Eureka and worked as the maintenance man of Greenwood County Hospital for 25 years. On August 1, 1988, JR was united in marriage to Sharyl (Fritts) Hawthorne in Eureka. He is survived by his wife, Sharyl of the home; son, Jeremy Andrew Gibson of Eureka; daughter, Christina Ann Patterson of Iola; step-son, Lyle Hawthorne of Wakefield; six grandchildren; sister, Linda Dauber of Eureka; brother, Dean Gibson of Eureka; and sister, Jean Johnson of Milton. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Shelia. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 22, 2012 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours are from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., Sunday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Greenwood County Cancer Support Group. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O.
