Description	:	"MILES CITY -- Hubert R. Straiton, 80, of Broadus, former clerk of the district court, died Saturday in Mesa, Ariz. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Powder River Congregational Church in Broadus. The Rev. David Brown, pastor, and the Rev. John F. Fitz of Miles City will officiate. The Broadus Masonic Lodge will conduct rites at Valley View Cemetery at Broadus. The Graves Funeral Home of Miles City will direct arrangements. Mr. Straiton was born Jan. 21, 1882 in Chicago. He came to Powder River County, then Custer County, in 1908. He homesteaded north of Broadus. He married Maud Hart on March 16, 1910 in Miles City. She died in Mesa in 1957. Mr. Straiton was a Custer County deputy sheriff during World War I. He was instrumental in forming the new county in 1919. Mr. Straiton became the first clerk of the district court of the county, a position he held for 30 years. He formed an insurance company in 1934. He retired in 1949 and had spent winters in Mesa since then. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Miles City Elks Lodge. Surviving are his sister, Mrs. W. E. Stokes of Mesa; two sons, Hubert Straiton of Berkeley, Calif., and John Straiton of Broadus; and three grandchildren." The Billings Gazette, November 14, 1962
