Scott, was born in Salem twonship, Greenwood County, near Lapland, Kansas, October 9, 1878, and departed this life January 7, 1941, after an illness of several years. He grew to manhood on his father's homestead and received his education at the Happy Hollow School house. He attended Teacher's Institute and received a teacher's certificate but thought he would rather following farming. On November 12, 1902, he married Rosa Cummings and they lived in Salem township. During the oil boom they conducted a grocery store on the Scott lease, and later had a store at Teterville, then they moved to Eureka, Kansas and were residing at their home, 1301 N. Oak St., at the time of his death. To this couple were born two children, Freda, who now resides at Hamilton, Kansas, and Paul of Hutchinson, Kansas, These children, a loving wife, a mother, one brother, and four sisters, two granddaughters and a host of friends and neighbors are left to mourn his passing. He was a good husband, and a kind father and a splendid neighbor. His mother, Mrs. Mary Scott, resides in El Dorado, Kansas as do the two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Marcom, and Mrs. Liza Marcom, one sister, Mrs. Golldie Higbee, in Neal, and Mrs. May Bealer of Madison. The brother, Will Scott, resides in Eureka. The funeral service was held at the Baird Funeral Home, January 9, at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Sutton, pastor of the Christian Church and the I.O.O.F. which he was a member. Two songs "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Going Home" were sung by Addington Bruton. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery. From Eureka Herald 16 January 1941 page 1.
