Description	:	Maude and Hugh did not have children. Hugh H. Chittum, 82 of Lexington died on Tuesday of last week at Stonewall Jackson Extended Care Facility. A native of Lexington he was born Aug. 31, 1886, the son of the late Charles H. Chittum and Rebecca Holtzman Chittum. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. His father, a well known Lexingtonian, was one of two young men who recovered the casket in which Gen. Robert E. Chittum, 82 of Lexington died on Tuesday of last week at Stonewall Jackson Extended Care Facility. A native of Lexington he was born Aug. 31, 1886, the son of the late Charles H. Chittum and Rebecca Holtzman Chittum. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. His father, a well known Lexingtonian, was one of two young men who recovered the casket in which Gen. Robert E. Lee was buried after Alexander's wharf, on which a shipment of caskets had been stored, was washed away by the flooding North (now Maury) River. Mr. Chittum was associated for many years with R. S. Anderson Company, a china and glass store, on Nelson Street, where he began working when he was 12 years old. More recently, he operated the Hugh H. Chittum Plumbing and Heating Company on Main Street, which he closed when he retired about 15 years ago. He is survived by one brother Caroll E. Chittum of Baltimore, Md. A funeral service was conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. A. J. Schrader officiating.
