Hugh was born December 26, 1910, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Botts) Septer. A graduate of Cumberland High School, he attended Iowa State University where he received a bachelor's degree in Animal Science. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Botts in 1941 in Kansas City, MO. She preceded him in death in 1998. Hugh was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II. Upon his discharge from the Army, he worked for Farmer's National Company in Omaha, managing several farms for absentee owners. He later worked for Ida County State Bank in Ida Grove, retiring after 25 years at the age of 75. Hugh was a member of Ida Grove First United Methodist Church, where he was very active as a volunteer. His passion was his farm and livestock. He enjoyed paying close attention to the cattle market, mending fence, and attending several cattle sales over the years. Hugh is survived by a son, Dr. Steven Septer of Mason City; nine grandchildren, Brian Baldwin of Anchorage, AK, Brent Baldwin of Honolulu, HI, Julie Baldwin of Denver, CO, Seth Septer of Kansas City, MO, Megan Septer of Minneapolis, MN, Caitlin Burger of Des Moines, IA, Natalie Septer of Minneapolis, MN, Nolan Septer of Mason City, and Quentin Septer of Mason City; ten great grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Richard Baldwin of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; a daughter, Suzanne Baldwin; and three sisters, Dora, Constance, and Frances.
