Description	:	Hugo August Schulz was born January 27, 1914, the son of William and Clara Gruessing Schulz. He died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Friday, November 16, 2007 at the age of ninety-three. Read More	Hugo August Schulz was born January 27, 1914, the son of William and Clara Gruessing Schulz. He died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Friday, November 16, 2007 at the age of ninety-three. Hugo was born in Osmond, Nebraska where he received his education in the Osmond Community Schools. After completing his education, he remained at home to help on his fathers farm. He also helped several neighboring farmers as a hired man. In 1934, he moved to Crawford County, Iowa and hired out to farmers in the Charter Oak area. In 1936, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and became a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. December 25, 1943, Hugo was united in marriage to Helen Thies at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. The couple settled in the Schleswig area and were blessed with the birth of one son. He began working with a portable feed grinding operation that served the farming communities from Schleswig to Battle Creek, Iowa. In 1957, he purchased the mill and remained self employed until his retirement in 1979. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends. Most of all, he enjoyed his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Minnie Lorenz Schulz; one step-brother, Milton Lorenz; two brothers, Ben Schulz and Herman and his wife, Agatha; two sisters, Minnie Gloe and her husband, Emil; and Meta Thomsen and her husband, John. Survivors include Helen, his wife of sixty-three years; one son, Lyle and his wife, Connie of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two granddaughters, Chelsea Schulz of Shawnee, Kansas and Crystal Schulz of Council Bluffs; one sister-in-law, Henrietta Schulz of Bennington, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Richard Merrill officiated the services and grave side rites held at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Charter Oak. Organist Art Beeck provided accompaniment for the congregational hymns "What A Friend We Have in Jesus," "How Great Thou Art," and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Those serving as pallbearers were Loren Schultz, Dan Van Pelt, Arlyn Schulz, Gerald Thomsen, Donald Gloe, and Oran Gloe. A Prayer Service was held Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of the arrangements.
