Shaw, near Gillett Grove, Iowa, Sunday, April 20th at the age of 72 years, nine months and 14 days. She was born at Goshen, Indiana, August 6, 1857. She was one of the pioneers of this state, coming to Carroll county, Iowa from Indiana in a covered wagon at the age of 12 years. Chase passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. Shaw, near Gillett Grove, Iowa, Sunday, April 20th at the age of 72 years, nine months and 14 days. She was born at Goshen, Indiana, August 6, 1857. She was one of the pioneers of this state, coming to Carroll county, Iowa from Indiana in a covered wagon at the age of 12 years. Losing her mother at the age of 10 years, she kept house for her father in Carroll until 1877, when she was united in marriage to Calvin C. Chase. To this union were born two children, Jessie of Miles City, Montana and Viola of Gillett Grove, Iowa, both of whom were with her at the end. She was baptized in the Methodist faith at an early age and has always lived a consistent Christian life. Her husband preceded her in death 12 years ago. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. George Guy of Carroll, Iowa; Hermon Hart of Laurens, Iowa; Oliver Hart of Omaha, Neb., and W. E. Hart of Portland, Oregon. One sister, Mrs. S. W. Peck of Carroll, Iowa, died in 1911. She also leaves nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends She spent most of her life in and near Carroll, and in later years made her home in Marathon. This last winter she spent in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, in the hope that the mild climate would benefit her health. She was of a kind and loving disposition and was always happy to help others. Funeral services were held at Carroll Tuesday, April 22, at 2:30 p.m., interment in the cemetery at Carroll beside her husband. -------------------------------------- Hulda J. Hart was the daughter of James W. and Rebecca Pearson Hart. Sisters were: Hester (wife of Sigmour W. Peck) Alvireda (wife of George Guy)
