Description	:	Ida K.(Reich) Palmer was born November 23, 1907 at Yale, South Dakota to Jacob and Ida (Kuehl) Reich. She was married to Bernia H. Palmer, at Mankato, KS, on May 25th, 1926. The license was witnessed by Gladys and Chester Webber. On December 2, 1926 they had a baby girl, Juanita Lee Palmer. Juanita was so small she was called "Babe" and the name stuck with her ever since. Initially Bernia and Ida lived on a farm outside of Natoma, KS. Read More	Ida K.(Reich) Palmer was born November 23, 1907 at Yale, South Dakota to Jacob and Ida (Kuehl) Reich. She was married to Bernia H. Palmer, at Mankato, KS, on May 25th, 1926. The license was witnessed by Gladys and Chester Webber. On December 2, 1926 they had a baby girl, Juanita Lee Palmer. Juanita was so small she was called "Babe" and the name stuck with her ever since. Initially Bernia and Ida lived on a farm outside of Natoma, KS. Due to the Great Depression, eventually farming became impractical for day to day living. So, in 1929, they moved to town, next to their in-laws George M and Lucy Palmer. Ida lived in the Natoma area all of her married life, not only was she was a homemaker, she was a woman of many talents. Her grandchildren absolutely loved her homemade bread, rolls, and pies. She was an accomplished seamstress and crocheted numerous afghans for family and friends. She did all kinds of jobs from hanging wall paper, to working in the kitchen of the Pacific Hotel. This was all to help add to the family income while her husband did carpentry work and other jobs obtained through the WPA program of 1935. Ida and Bernia would make the annual Christmas visit to the East coast to visit their only daughter and her husband, along with five grandchildren. These visits were special to everyone and were much anticipated. It was a heavy heart for family when Bernia H. Palmer passed on February 8, 1971. Ida had survived a number of health issues, but while visiting with family in New Jersey, 1990, she became very ill. She passed away on February 8th. Her remains were brought back to the town of Natoma by family. A memorial service was held on February 14th at Peace Lutheran Church.
