Ida May Purdy was born September 10, 1856, at Ithaca, N. T. She died at Fairmont, Neb., April 1, 1938, at the advanced age of 81 years, 6 months and 22 days. Her parents died when she was but a small girl, and she made her home thereafter with a family by the name of Prots at Ithaca, N.Y. At the age of sixteen she went to Campbellsport, Wis. She was united in marriage to Clark H. Matteson July 28, 1864, at Fond du Lac, Wis. Two sons and two daughters were born to this union. A daughter, Edna Grace, passed away in 1893, and a son, Dee in 1898. The husband, Clark H. Matteson, one son, Glen of Hastings and one daughter, Mrs. Aurilla Geyer of Louisville, Neb., survive the wife and mother. They together with two grandsons, Floyd R. and Francis W. Matteson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four granddaughters, Alma, Doris, Iva and Ruby Geyer of Louisville, Neb.; a great-grandson, Warren Glen Matteson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; the daughter-in-law, Mrs. Glen Matteson and son-in-law, Clifford Geyer, and other relatives are left to mourn her departure. The Matteson family came to Nebraska in 1883 and lived three years on a farm northwest of Exeter. In 1886 they moved to their farm northwest of Fairmont where they resided until 1919, when Mr. and Mrs. Matteson moved to their present home. Mrs. Matteson gave unsparingly of her time to the sick as long as she was physically able to do so. One of her greatest joys in life was the flowers with which she was surrounded herself. Failing health the past few years has made it necessary that she be confined to the house and she was bedfast the last ten days of her life. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the Fairmont Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev. Robert L. Embree, in charge. Interment was in the Fairmont Cemetery. When Sarah died, Ida and her sisters were sent to live in separate households. They did stay in contact and her sister Margaret "Maggie" Purdy Hendricks of Wisconsin and Libbie Purdy Kresge of Ithaca. She is listed as surviving her sister Maggie Hendricks in Maggie's obituary.
