Description	:	"Mrs. Ida R. Nicola, 76 years of age, received a severe fracture of her left hip when she slipped on an icy sidewalk and fell about 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. The mishap occurred a short distance from the home of Mrs Nicola's son, Lyle B. Nicola, 313 North Tenth street, where she lives. Nicola, 76 years of age, received a severe fracture of her left hip when she slipped on an icy sidewalk and fell about 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. The mishap occurred a short distance from the home of Mrs Nicola's son, Lyle B. Nicola, 313 North Tenth street, where she lives. Examination of the injury revealed that the femur was shattered close to the hip joint, Mr. Nicola states. The fracture is being treated by having the leg held in place with sandbags rather than by a cast as the sandbags will permit Mrs. Nicola a little more comfort than the solid cast. She was reported to be resting as comfortably as could be expected shortly before noon Tuesday. Mrs. Nicola had started to attend a meeting of a woman's organization when she fell, her son said. Friends were to call for her with an automobile and while she was upstairs Mrs. Nicola saw a car drive away from the Nicola home. She believed that her friends had called and had been unable to make her hear and had gone on without her so she decided to walk. Mrs. Ida R. Nicola died 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of her sister Mrs. Winnie Durland as a result of the accident she suffered 8 weeks ago when she fell on an icy sidewalk. "Since that time she has been confined to her bed, her condition gradually growing worse." Funeral services will be held at the home of her son on Thursday. Miss Ida Roberts was born Jan. 5, 1856 at Freeport, Illinois to Dr. and Mrs. G. B. Richards. They moved to Bloomfield, Iowa two years later. She was married on April 27, 1876 to Benjamin W. Nicola at Washinton, Iowa and they moved to Riverside, Iowa. It was here that their only child Lyle B. was born who is now president of the Durland Trust company. They lived at Wellman, Iowa for 15 years then moved to Washington, Iowa where they resided for a number of years. Then moving to Burlington, Iowa where Mr. Nicola was one of the organizers of a bank. Later they moved to Seattle, Washington and then came to Norfolk about 15 years ago and stayed here for several years. "They then moved to Los Angeles, where Mr. Nicola died in September 1928. Since that time Mrs. Nicola had been living with her son, Lyle here. During her life Mrs. Nicola had been intensely interested in books." At Washington, Iowa she was a member of the library board. At Burlington, Iowa she organized the Alpha book review club. She also organized a book review club in Norfolk. She was survived by her son, her sister Mrs. Durland, 3 grandchildren.
