Lewis, was born October 5, 1884, on a farm west of Allerton, and passed away at the Wayne County Hospital on March 28, 1971, at the age of 86 years, five manths, and 23 days. Lewis, was born October 5, 1884, on a farm west of Allerton, and passed away at the Wayne County Hospital on March 28, 1971, at the age of 86 years, five manths, and 23 days. Although she had not been in good health for several years, she had been able to maintain her own home until she fell on the evening of January 25 and broke her hip which confined her to her bed until her death. On March 10, 1909, she was united in marriage to James Doak Stewart, and to this union three children were born: a son who died in infancy, and two daughters, Lois and Vesta. A nephew of her husband, William Elery Stewart, now of Batavia, Illinois, made his home with the family for several years. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart lived on a farm west of Allerton. Mrs. Stewart was born on this same farm and with the exception of one year, lived there until she and her husband retired and moved to Corydon in 1946, In March, 1959, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doak, whopassedaway in January, 1963; her father and mother; a sister, Icy McKee-man; a sister, Stella Hutchinson; and a sister and brother who died in infancy. Mrs. Stewart was converted at an early age and later joined the Methodist Church in Allerton. After moving to Corydon she transferred her membership to the Corydon Methodist Church. Ida was a faithful wife and a most loving mother. She was patient, kind, and understanding through the weeks of her illness and helplessness, and everything possible in the way of tender and loving care was given to her during this time. The welfare and happiness of her family were always her main interest and she was most happy when members of her family, including her grandchildren and great grandchildren, were with her. Those left to mourn her passing are her two daughters, Lois Carlyle of near Sewal, and Vesta Warren of Corydon; two sons-in-law, Howard Carlyle and Glenn Warren; six grandchildren, Marvin Carlyle and his wife Connie of Colfax; James Carlyle of Corydon; Carolyn Carlyle of Des Moines; Marilyn Knode and her husband Stephen of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Donald Carlyle of Chanute Air Base, Rantoul, Illinois; and WayneCarlyle of the home; - three great grandchildren, Terry Joe Carlyle, Kenneth Michael Carlyle and Daniel Lee Knode; one brother, Orville Lewis of York Nebraska; one sister, Bessie Jones of Allerton, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 30, 1971 from Wolf Funeral Home in Corydon at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Lawrence Jones officiated. Interment was in the Allerton Cemetery.
