The funeral took place in the Catholic church Saturday morning and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Thos. Powers. A large gathering of friends accompanied the remains to Mt. Olivet Cemetery where they were laid to rest to await the resurrection to a full and glorious life, that shall have no ending. Ignatius B. Walker, son of Hugh Walker and Isabel Cambron was born at St. Mary's, in Marion County, Kentucky, July 6, 1848. Had he been spared two months longer he would have completed his eighty-eighth year. He arrived at Osage Mission, October 10th, 1870. Settled on the homestead in Elk County, February 8, 1871 where he resided until his death, sixty-five years. He was united in marriage to Mary E. O'Daniel of Shelbina, Missouri, February 21, 1881. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife and children, Christina, Clarence and Ray of Moline, Mamie of Topeka, three grandsons, and sister, Mrs. J. T. Flanagan of Lebanon, Kentucky. Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Walker, Miss Irene Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Newman, and daughter, of Wichita, James Walker of Herrington; Mrs. Sophia Walker and sons, Frank of Fredonia, and Wilbur of Kansas City; Mrs. K. K. Friedell of Fort Scott, Kansas. Tribute from the editor of the Howard Citizen, F. C. Flory: I. B. Walker known to his friends as "Nate" was one of the very earliest settlers on the prairie. His homestead was almost adjoining the town of Boston, a county seat town of the early seventies. Mr. Walker well knew the hardships of a pioneer. He was a man of good judgment, careful and considerate. This together with his wonderful ambition made him a successful farmer and stockman. While Mr. Walker never aspired to office he was frequently consulted by politicians of his township, county and state. Those that lived in his community for half a century say, "He was a good neighbor." He was a home man, loved his home, his family and his friends. He was honorable and upright in every respect, a true Christian and gentleman.
