Ilo Mae Johnson was born on September 15, 1923 on the family farm at rural Wadena, Iowa, the daughter of Ole Martin & Pearl (Erickson) Johnson. She attended country school and graduated from Wadena High School in the Class of 1941. Ilo Mae attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette where she obtained her teaching certificate and then taught country school. Ilo Mae was united in marriage to Duwain Foster “Dewey” Rau on July 21, 1945 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed together at rural Arlington where Ilo Mae was a homemaker and raised her family. Ilo Mae made this farm her home for the past 66 years. Ilo Mae was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Southside Community Club and the Arlington Red Hats. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, golfing, crocheting, playing cards and traveling. Ilo Mae will be remembered for her great sense of humor and her love of her family and friends. Ilo Mae is survived by her 4 Daughters: Dawn (Dr. John) Cunningham of Elkader, Debra (Robert) Huck of Wadena, Detra (Terry) Warren of Mitchellville and Darla Rau of Altoona; 9 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; Sister-In-Law: Kathleen Johnson of Arlington and Many Nieces & Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Dewey on January 6, 1992, sister: Donna Halverson and brother: Derrel Johnson.
