She was born March 12, 1870, at Funkstown, Md., a daughter of David and Virginia Rowland. At the age of two she came with her parents to Iowa and settled on a farm near Victor. For ten years she taught school in Poweshiek county and in the Victor public school. In September, 1899, she was married to George Doughty of Cedar Rapids, Neb., who preceded her in death, as did one infant son. Mrs. Doughty was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist of Des Moines, where she spent 47 years in its service. She leaves to mourn her loss four sisters, Mrs. Mollie Clouse of Des Moines, Mrs. Nellie McIllrath, and Mrs. Hattie McDowell of Grinnell and Mrs. Edna Davis of Corona, Calif.
