She was born in Floyd Co., VA, on March 6, 1931, to the late John Milton Harman, Sr. and the late Veda Hall Harman. Ms. McKinney was a retired ABC store manager. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, a former member of the Tuesday Women's Club, a former board member of the Halifax Co. Historical Museum, and a former volunteer at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Floyd Co., VA, on March 6, 1931, to the late John Milton Harman, Sr. and the late Veda Hall Harman. Ms. McKinney was a retired ABC store manager. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, a former member of the Tuesday Women's Club, a former board member of the Halifax Co. Historical Museum, and a former volunteer at Halifax Regional Hospital. Survivors include a son, Dale A. McKinney, and wife, Angela, of South Boston, VA; a brother, William Ray Harman, and wife, Edith, of Halifax, VA; three grandchildren: Cole McKinney, Burke McKinney, and Telisa McKinney; two great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Brenda Tilley of South Boston. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brian Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM and at other times at the home of Dale & Angela McKinney, 1800 Vaughan St., South Boston, VA. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Halifax Regional Hospice, 2204 Wilborn Ave., South Boston, VA 24592; or Alzheimers Association, Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
