LEMUEL FENLEY Inez I., daughter of Stephen and Margaret Kendall Van Benthusen, was born in Wayne county, Iowa, on March 9, 1853, and passed from this life June 4, 1931, at her home in Russell, Iowa, aged 78 years, 2 months and 26 days. She was married on May 4, 1871 to Lemuel Fenley at Confidence, Iowa. To this union one son was born, Stephen H. The greater part of her married life was spent in Wayne and Lucas counties, with the exception of a few months in Kansas. For 35 years the family lived on a farm near Greenville, coming to Russell in 1918. She was converted in early womanhood and united with the Baptist church at Confidence, later in life uniting in the work of the M. E. church at Greenville. She was untiring in her devotion to home and loved ones and always found time to minister to friends in the hour of need. Only a month ago this estimable couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. For some time Mrs. Fenley has been in failing health and has been tenderly cared for by her husband, son, and daughter-in-law. Besides these loved ones, she leaves to mourn their loss, seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Zella Young, of Centerville; Mrs. Susan Sears, of Russell; and Mrs. Ann Stone, of Tulsa, Okla. A brother, James Van Benthusen, died about 50 years ago. Many other relatives and a large circle of friends and neighbors mourn her departure. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Russell Baptist church, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals, with Rev. Clark assisting. Interment was made in the Confidence cemetery.
