Read More	Pioneer Mother Dies at Eureka Inez Turpin was born on July 18, 1868 near Springfield, Missouri and departed this life at her home in Eureka, Kansas on June 17, 1949 at 7:30 p.m.at the age of 81 years. Although not enjoying good helth for some time she was able to be about her home until the time of her passing. She came to Kansas at the age of 16 years and made her home with her sister for a short time. On January 3, 1886 she was united in marriage to Morton Hughes at Reese, Kansas and to this union eight children were born. One son died in infancy and another son, Everett passed away at the age of 26 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Eureka. She is survived by six children' three sons. Tom, Lloyd and Morton' three daughters, Mrs. Olive Wright, Mrs. Jessie Hale, and Mrs. Bessie Pope. There are 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. There are other relatives and friends who sorrow in her passing. Mrs. Hughes spent all of her life in this section. She spent a number of years in the Reece community and more than 30 years on the farm south of Eureka. About two years ago she and Mr. Hughes moved to the present home where Mr. Hughes passed away about one and one half years ago. Funeral service was held Monday, June 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the Baird Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Packard officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. From Eueka Herald 23 June 1949 page 6.
