Description	:	Ingeborg Olsdtr Kompelien, was born in Bruflat, Valdres, Norway on December 23, 1842. She was the fifth of 10 children born to Ole Anderson Kompelien and Helena Andersdtr Hestkinn Kompelien. As a young girl, she herded cattle in the mountains, or worked as a seamstress' helper. Read More	Ingeborg Olsdtr Kompelien, was born in Bruflat, Valdres, Norway on December 23, 1842. She was the fifth of 10 children born to Ole Anderson Kompelien and Helena Andersdtr Hestkinn Kompelien. As a young girl, she herded cattle in the mountains, or worked as a seamstress' helper. Around 1860-1863 she met and married Arne Arneson and they had four daughters: Kari, Helena, Anna and Olava. Arne passed away after an accident in his workshop when a sharp blade slipped and severed an artery in his leg. Around 1879, she married Jehans Pederson Nysven and they had two children, Agnet and Iver. Being many friends and relatives, including her parents and brothers, had come to America, the Nysvens, too, decided to cross the Atlantic, so in 1885, the trip lasting seven weeks on the ocean was made. There were many anxious times as the water was very rough but at last they landed safely and made their way to Mayville, North Dakota. This locality was their home for many years. Here the children grew to adulthood and the five girls married. Jehans passed away in Mayville. Many of the neighbors and family were going to the western part of the state to homestead where free land was to be gotten. So in 1905, Ingaborg filed on land in Williams County. In April 1906, the final step of moving was made and again a new home was established - a little homestead shack occupied by Ingeborg and her son, Iver. A short distance to the south was daughter and son-in-law, Agnet and Carl Thorstad and their three children, Clara, Ina, and Clifford, and the following year, 1907, another daughter and son-in-law, Helena and John Olson and their five children, Alfred, Ida, Clarence, Clara, and Ella arrived and homesteaded about a half mile to the east. As doctors were few and far between when distance was to be covered by walking or using horses, neighbors helped each other and one often called upon to act as midwife was "Grandma" Nysven. When the Rudser Ladies Aid was organized in 1906, Ingeborg became a charter member and also of the congregation when it was organized in January 1907. Quite often one or more of the grandchildren would visit Ingeborg so that she wouldn't be alone when Iver was hauling grain or out threshing. Ingeborg continued living outside of Zahl, North Dakota until her death in January, 1931. ------------------------- The Divide County Journal, Crosby, North Dakota Friday, February, 6, 1931 OBITUARY Funeral services for Mrs. Ingeborg Nysven were held at Rudser church Monday afternoon by Rev. J Nystuen, of Zahl. Mrs. Nysven has been in pool health for several years but was quite well this winter up to few days before her death, January 29. Flu and old age was the cause of her death. Ingeborg Kompelien was born Dec. 17, 1841 at Valders, Norway, and was 89 years, one month and 12 days old at the time of her death. She was married to Arne [Arneson]* the year of 1863. To this union four children were born, Karie (Mrs. Andreas Fjeld) who preceded her in death; Helena (Mrs. Helena Olson) of Zahl; Anna (Mrs. Andrew Dahle) and Olava (Mrs. Ole Olson) both of Mayville, N. D. In the year 1874 her husband passed away. In the year of 1879, she married Johannes Nysven. To this Union two children were born, Iver Nysven and Agnet (Mrs. Carl Thorstad) both of Zahl. The family arrived in this country 46 years ago, and settled at Mayville, N. D. coming to Williams county in 1906, where she has since lived. Besides her four daughters and one son, she leaves 33 grand children and 31 great grand children. Her husband passed away in 1901. A large crowd attended the funeral services. All her daughters and her son were present. Six grandsons were pall bearers. The church was decorated in gray and lavender, and with houseplants. The Zahl men’s quartet rendered 2 songs and the Rudser choir one during the services and one at the grave. The deceased was respected and loved by all who knew her. The bereaved have the sympathy of their many friends. *incorrectly listed as Nysven in the obituary.
