Spitler, 82, well-known retired Columbia township farmer, died at 2:50 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Linvill Memorial hospital where he was entered as a patient ten days ago. In failing health for considerable time, he previously had been a patient at the Columbia Convalescent home. Mr. Spitler was a native of Whitley county and spent his entire life here. He was born on May 25, 1860. His wife died on August 6, 1921 and two daughters preceded him in death. Miss Naomi Spitler who died on June 24, 1939, and Mrs. Marion Egolf, who died last August 4. He is survived by but one sister, Mrs. E. W. Lott, of Fort Wayne. Until his retirement several years ago, Mr. Spitler operated a farm a short distance east of the city limits on the Raber road. The body has been removed to Luckenbill's Sons' Funeral Home where friends will be received until the funeral hour. The funeral services, in charge of Rev. John B. Hoestine, pastor of Grace Lutheran church, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be made in Greenhill cemetery.
