Ira McCullough was born February 27, 1891, near Burlington, KS., the son of John Walter and Victoria Kiser McCullough, and departed this life on February 16 1987 at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. He was married to Ada V. Jones on April 22, 1913 at Waverly. She preceded him in death on April 21, 1927. On October 20, 1927, he was married to Alice F. Carlton and she preceded him in death on July 23 1938. He was also preceded by two daughters, Wilma F. Carlton, and an infant daughter, Lillian; his five brothers, Walter, Harry, Frank, Fred, and Floyd McCullough; and his sister, Etta Freeman. Ira farmed east of Burlington many tears before moving to the Strawn community in 1933, where he continued to farm and raise livestock. Following his retirement he was cared for by his son, Fred, until April 2, 1982, when he became a resident of the Golden Age Lodge. He leaves his three sons, Victor, Beryl, and Fred McCullough; five daughters, Mildred Truelove, Alice DeLong, Ileene Newsome, Lucille Atherly, and Anna Lou From. He also treasured his sons- and duaghters-in-law, Virginia, Eleanor, Irvin, Lyle, Wendall, Ronald, Duane, and Loran. He also leaves thirty grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was active in the community and was always ready to help others whenever there was a need. He spent his life caring for his family and his greatest pleasure was enjoying his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery. Obit provided by Mike Murdock.
