Description	:	Mr. Ira Simpson “Simmie” Wilmoth, age 97, a lifelong resident of Belington, departed this life late Thursday evening May 28, 2020 at his Belington home. Simmie was born July 6, 1922 at Barbour County, WV, a son of the late Delbert William and Octava Moore Wilmoth. On June 16, 1946 at Junior he was united in marriage to the former Carrie Louise Bibey, who preceded him in death on February 9, 2009. They were married for 63 years at the time of her passing. Read More	Mr. Ira Simpson “Simmie” Wilmoth, age 97, a lifelong resident of Belington, departed this life late Thursday evening May 28, 2020 at his Belington home. Simmie was born July 6, 1922 at Barbour County, WV, a son of the late Delbert William and Octava Moore Wilmoth. On June 16, 1946 at Junior he was united in marriage to the former Carrie Louise Bibey, who preceded him in death on February 9, 2009. They were married for 63 years at the time of her passing. Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Sharon Harsh and husband Ronald of Belington, Shelia Sheets and husband Roland of Charleston, three grandchildren; Veronica Harsh- Mallory and husband Michael, Matthew Ashby, and Adrianne Ashby, great grandchildren; Jordon Chase Harsh-Mallory, Lauren Camille Harsh-Mallory, Parker Chance Harsh-Mallory, Julian Christopher Harsh-Mallory, Mila Cleek and Layla Cleek Also surviving are one sister, Helen Wilmoth Bibey and husband Jack. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one grandson, Ronald Todd Harsh and one granddaughter; Stephanie Ann Harsh; one sister Betty Wilmoth Bibey and husband Fred; and an infant brother, William”Billy” Wilmoth. Simmie was a 1939 graduate of the Belington High School. His pre-war work began with Lee Bennett Sawmill in Belington. He then enlisted in the US Army-Airforce where he served during World War II and obtained the rank of Sergeant in the 99th Depot supply squadron and he received the Asiatic Pacific theater ribbon, Good conduct ribbon and victory medal. Following the war, he worked at Lockheed Aircraft in Baltimore Maryland. He then returned home to WV where he took a job with Kane and Kaiser Hardware in Belington where he was employed most of his working career. He started out as a truck driver, then progressed to salesman, then later entered in the accounting department where he became the Administrator over those that were salesman. Simmie worked in that capacity until his retirement. He was a member of the Westside United Methodist Church in Belington, the Belington Masonic Lodge #125 AF&AM, and a lifetime member of the Laurel Mountain Post #410 VFW. He was a former member of the Belington Kiwanis Club, formerly a member of OES Chapter #68 of Belington, where he was a former worthy Patron and had the privilege of serving with his wife Louise and daughter Sharon, while they were worthy Matrons. He was presently a member of the OES Chapter #44 of Philippi. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. A family private graveside service will be conducted in the Stringtown Cemetery near Belington, on Monday June 1, 2020 at 12:00 pm where full military rites will be accorded by the United States Army and the American Legion Post #96 of Belington. The Belington Masonic Lodge #125 AF & AM will also conduct Ritualistic services. Pastor Bryan Headley will officiate.
