When Ira was five years old, his mother died and he went to make his home with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Krueger. He attended country schools and at the age of 12 years he made his home with Frank and Carrie Bailey (his mother's sister) of Coon Rapids, until 1930. Read More	Coon Rapids Enterprise January 26, 1995: IRA WAYNE GILLEY Ira, son of Frank and Kathleen Hirsch Gilley, was born June 7, 1905 in Union Township, Carroll County. When Ira was five years old, his mother died and he went to make his home with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Krueger. He attended country schools and at the age of 12 years he made his home with Frank and Carrie Bailey (his mother's sister) of Coon Rapids, until 1930. On November 11, 1931 Ira was united in marriage with Agnes Helen Bradley. Two children were born to this union. They spent their entire lives in the Greene and Carroll County communities. Ira loved the farm life, however, he spent a few years living in town. After the death of his wife, Agnes in 1974, Ira continued to live on their farm northeast of Bayard. When his health began to fail in October of 1994, Ira entered Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He died there on Thursday January 19, 1995 at the age of 89 year, seven months, and 12 days. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Gilley of Des Moines, his son, Leo Gilley of Council Bluffs, cousins and friends.
