On November 3, 1936, in Red Cloud, Nebraska, she was united in marriage to Earl Willett. Earl and Irene moved from Superior, Nebraska, to Wichita, Kansas, in 1943 where she was employed by Boeing Military Airplance (sic) as a cafeteria worker. They later moved to Peck, Kansas, where they were making their home at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her parents and four infant sons. Survivors include her husband Earl of Peck, Kansas; four daughters, Beth Freeze of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Earlene Bohonnon of South Haven, Kansas, Linda Eckhardt of Sylmar, California, and Judy Welker of Sugarland, Texas; one brother Eugene Schmitt of Camas, Washington; four sisters, Gladys Fisher of Seattle, Washington, Rachel Owens and Carol Waddell, both of Van Couver (sic), Washington, and Betty Thorn of Washougal, Washington; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 2, 1988, at 10:00 a.m. from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska, with Pastor Ken Fairbrother officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Carlita Price as organist playing "Ivory Palaces," Casketbearers were Tom Rust, David Rust, Jim Willett, Roger Freeze, Larry Jacobs and Doug Herrington. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Nebraska. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, July 14, 1988; pg. 10
