Visitation will be 3 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Irene was born on Dec. 22, 1910, on a farm north of Alden in Franklin County, the daughter of Fred and Ellen May (Nelsen) Lawton. She graduated from the Alden High School in 1928, attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and later graduated from the Burnell College of Cosmetology. On Feb. 28, 1933, she was united in marriage to Frank E. Klein of Alden in Albert Lea, Minn. She and her husband were Alden residents until moving to Iowa Falls in 1963. She worked as a beautician in Iowa Falls for many years. She was an Alden 4-H Leader, a 50-year member and past worthy matron and district instructor of the Priscilla and Ascension Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the White Shrine Kensington, a 50-year member and past president of Iowa Falls Women's Club, an active member of the Iowa Republican Women, and a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a gifted artist and enjoyed oil painting and ceramics. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Karla Hoffman and husband Gary of Iowa Falls; two granddaughters, Teresa Bahr and husband Scott of Iowa Falls and Sherrlyn Hartle and husband Matt of Urbandale; five great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Justin Bahr and Shannon, Megan, and Ethan Hartle; one brother, Harold "Bud" Lawton and wife Shirley of Iowa Falls; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; a great-granddaughter, Kristie Bahr; and one sister, Helen Ellingson Aldinger. .
