Description	:	Irene was born on the family farm near Edmonton, Alberta. She was the fifth of eight children. As a young girl, Irene accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord, was baptized, and became a member of the Rabbit Hill Baptist Church. Irene's marriage to Milbert Edwin Benke of Leduc, Alberta, was the first marriage in the new Rabbit Hill Baptist Church. Read More	Irene was born on the family farm near Edmonton, Alberta. She was the fifth of eight children. As a young girl, Irene accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord, was baptized, and became a member of the Rabbit Hill Baptist Church. Irene's marriage to Milbert Edwin Benke of Leduc, Alberta, was the first marriage in the new Rabbit Hill Baptist Church. The couple started their own farming operation just north of where Irene grew up. In 1947, Irene and Milbert started a new farmyard one mile south of the existing one so that they would be close to a better road. Irene developed a large vegetable garden with many flower gardens as well. Irene worked alongside Milbert in developing their dairy herd along with many chickens that provided extra food for her family. She knitted and crocheted many beautiful pieces which her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren continue to enjoy. After farming for 35 years, Irene and Milbert sold their farm and moved to Camrose for their retirement. Irene continued to maintain a beautiful garden in the new location. In 2012, Irene's health began to deteriorate after a fall. She was moved to Bethany and later to Rosehaven Care Center where she was called home to her Savior on January 12, 2016.
