She graduated from Lamoni High School and the University of Iowa. Iris taught math for 22 years and retired from Vernon Junior High in Marion in 1976. On May 23, 1937 at Perry, IA, she married Merwen L. Taylor. He died March 17, 1989. She was a member of the Nation Education Association, Phi Bets Kappa and Tri-T and was active in her church, Community of Christ. She served as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids 4000 hours.
