Edgar and Lucina Butts, was born July 10, 1898, at Decatur, Nebraska, and passed away July 24, 1977, at the Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines. He was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church on September 12, 1908. Orrin was ordained to the office of Priest in which office he served throughout the remainder of his life. He and Zella L. Lewis were united in marriage on November 11, 1921, in Decatur, Nebraska where they resided until 1934 when they moved to Lamoni. From 1942 to 1945, the family lived in Alton, Illinois returning to Lamoni in 1945. Three children were born to Orrin and Zella -- Orrin Dalton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Betty LaVere of Lamoni, and James Dallas of Scottsdale, Arizona. Zella passed away in March 1949. In November 1952, he married Fern J. DeLong. They resided in Lamoni until her death in 1965. Orrin was a machinist by trade having been trained by his father and worked with him in his early years. At the young age of 19, he was a foreman of a shop. He spent many years in business having owned his own automotive establishments in Nebraska. He joined his father in the Blacksmith and Machine Shop when the family moved to Lamoni. In the 1930s, he became a manager for the Lamoni Mill for Hyde and Vredenburg. When the old mill burned, he renovated the old Rouch Elevator where he continued to serve as manager for several years. During World War II, he was employed as Field Machinist for Shell Oil Company in Roxana, Illinois. When the family returned to Lamoni in 1945, he was employed at the Farmer's Co-op Elevator and later managed the Lamoni Mill, Inc. The last 10 years before retirement, he was employed at Graceland College. He pursued his interest in business and his trade during his retirement years. He completely remodeled the old Teale building. Orrin thoroughly enjoyed his association and friendship with the many college students for whom he provided housing. Survivors include his three children and their families, sisters Alta Mann of Decatur, Nebraska, Eunice Wegman of East Alton, Illinois, Iris Taylor of Marion, Iowa, brothers Stephen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Derrell of Bridgeton, Mo., and his stepson, Darwin DeLong and family of Lamoni. Serviced conducted by Lamoni Funeral Home were held Wednesday, July 27 at the Lamoni RLDS Church. Elders Robert B. Hynden and Willard Moon officiated. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery.
