Description	:	Irma Burke died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000 at the Franciscan Care Center in Tacoma after a short illness. She was 84 years of age. Irma was born on a Nile River ranch in Yakima County in June 1915, the daughter of Mary Markel and Matt Laws. While living in Wenatchee as a young woman, she met Eddie Burke on a blind date. Irma was born on a Nile River ranch in Yakima County in June 1915, the daughter of Mary Markel and Matt Laws. While living in Wenatchee as a young woman, she met Eddie Burke on a blind date. They were married one year later by Father Duffy in 1941 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wenatchee, attended by best man, Ralph Burke, bridesmaid, Agnes Gallagher and altar boy, Bernard Burke. Mrs. Burke lived and worked in the North Central Washington area for most of her married life. She was a beautician and hair stylist. She was also a master seamstress who worked for Wells and Wade and volunteered her sewing talents to the Appleatchee All-Girls Drill Team and Shelton's Dance Studios. Besides raising her own two children, Irma helped raise ten foster children at different times in her married life. Irma was "Aunt Irma" to the large extended family of Bernard Burke and Mary Flanagan. For three decades, she helped organize their annual Burke Family reunions in Leavenworth. In addition, she was always helping out her numerous nieces and nephews with a place to stay, emergency loans or just a friendly card game followed by apple pie and coffee. Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie and by her brother, Clarence Eugene "Pink" Laws. She is survived by her daughter, Therese Hale of Tacoma; her son, Shane Burke of Hampstead, MD; and her grandchildren, Tralee Hale, Olivia Hale and Courtney Burke. There will be a Rosary at Jones & Jones on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. and a funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's on Friday. Burial will follow at the Wenatchee Cemetery. Jones & Jones Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
